Today was another 8-miler for me, Aimee. I left the house at 8:15am. It was already 82 degrees. My goal was a 12:30 pace. But as it got hotter, I got slower. Ended up with a 14:08 pace.

Next run: Sunday. 10 miles!

My run in the heat did not go so well. I completed only 5 out of the scheduled 8 miles.

So today I arranged to get up early and get the miles in. Ran 8 strong miles. I am happy with my pace & hope I don't slow down as runs get longer.

It has gotten HOT out! Definitely makes for interesting training. I, Aimee, am off from work between 9am-3pm. Thought I would get up extra early to run this morning before any of the teens were awake. Did not happen. I like sleep too much. So, today will be another warm run-with lots of water! Wil update later on how it went.

Today in training. 13 miles on the bike.

Today's training for me, Aimee, was a swim day. On the schedule 3500 yards. 2 swimming miles! I completed it in one hour, twenty-four minutes.

I think swimming helps my running because it is the ultimate teacher of "breathing control." It also forces a focused mind because of the repetition.

Delayed.

This week was Memorial Day. Plus two times off work. My whole schedule was delayed.

Friday was bike day. Didn't happen until Saturday.

Saturday was rest day. Didn't happen until Sunday.

Sunday was to be run day. You guessed it...won't be happening until Monday. Will double it up with tomorrow's planned swim so I can get back on schedule!

In addition to training for my first marathon, I (Aimee) am also hoping to become a triathlete in 2013. My first attempt, well...I had an injured ankle that kept me from training and getting "bike comfortable", so I DNF (did not finish).  I did the swim but stopped after that. My second attempt will be on July 14th in Harrisburg. Today....I spent a little while riding my bike. Did almost 9 miles. Nice early morning ride before the heat of the day. Now it is time to get ready for Callie's Dance Show. She is in two dances this year. Her dad is happy that both are in the first section :).

This past weekend, Adrienne & I (and Callie) made the drive up to Boston to participate in Boston's Run To Remember. This annual event is run on honor of fallen police officers. With the bombing at the Boston Marathon, this event took on new meaning this year. Adrienne ran the half marathon. 13.1 miles. Her race was dedicated to MIT Officer Sean Collier. She set a new personal record by finishing five minutes faster than ever before. I ran the 5-miler. It was dedicated to the family of Martin Richard, the little boy who was killed during the bombing. My goal was to finish in less than one hour--which I did. It was an incredible experience. Over 10,000 runners participated. RunningStrong. BostonStrong. Celebrating the heroes amongst us.
